My Journey as an AWS Consultant at SharkScale

During my time at SharkScale, a consulting firm specializing in Amazon Web Services (AWS) for SMEs, I had the amazing opportunity to guide companies through the complex world of cloud solutions. My goal was to show them how AWS could revolutionize the way they operate. It wasn’t just about providing advice; it was about opening their eyes to the incredible potential of AWS and creating customized solutions to tackle their unique challenges head-on.

Every day at SharkScale brought something new and exciting. I worked on a wide variety of projects, each with its own set of requirements and goals. One of my main tasks was to demystify AWS for our clients. I often created detailed diagrams and presentations to break down complex cloud concepts into easy-to-understand bit sized pieces. These visual aids helped clients see not just the theoretical benefits of AWS services, but the real, tangible impact they could have on their business operations.

AWS offers an incredible array of services, from basic computing power and storage solutions to more advanced options like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and serverless architectures. My job was to pick the right combination of these services to solve specific problems for our clients. For example, many SMEs struggle with scaling their IT infrastructure to handle fluctuating demand without breaking the bank. That’s where AWS’s serverless solutions, like Lambda, come in handy. Lambda allows businesses to run code without worrying about managing servers. I would show clients how adopting a serverless architecture could streamline their operations and save them a ton of money in the process.

Sometimes, my work went beyond just consultations and presentations. I would dive deep into a client’s current IT setup, analyzing every detail to identify inefficiencies and create a roadmap for transformation. These reports were super comprehensive, covering everything from the specific AWS services that could solve their problems to the expected benefits of implementing these solutions, like better scalability, enhanced security, and lower costs.

Every now and then, I put on my auditor hat to really scrutinize a client’s existing systems. The goal was to find ways to save money and improve efficiency. This required a sharp eye for detail and a deep understanding of AWS pricing models and services. By pointing out areas of waste or underutilization, I could recommend changes that often led to significant cost savings and performance boosts.

As a SaaS (Software as a Service) and serverless architect, my specialty was designing systems that harnessed the full power of the cloud. It’s important to note that I wasn’t a developer. My strength was in seeing the big picture – envisioning how different AWS services could work together to create a seamless, efficient, and scalable system perfectly suited to the needs of SMEs.

Throughout my time at SharkScale, I discovered that the true power of AWS goes beyond its technical capabilities. It has the ability to completely transform businesses. By helping clients understand and embrace the cloud, I played a role in unlocking new opportunities for growth, innovation, and efficiency. The cloud is the future, and at SharkScale, I was lucky enough to help SMEs take flight into this exciting new frontier, making sure they were using AWS to its fullest potential to drive their success.
